Checklist for New Computer Deployment (*Updated for Intune)

New Computer Deployment 

  • Steps to do on current computer 

​​☐​ Copy the users profile folder and put on \\neclonedeploy\triage. How to: Make a folder in Triage and rename it as the username of the owner.  Then transfer Contacts, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Pictures, Links and any Miscellaneous file that might be saved in there. (You can use Taylor’s Script for this or do it manually by copy/pasting) Also have them backup important files to OneDrive/ M drive. 

 

​​☐​ Check if they have saved bookmarks. If so, export the file and add to triage as well (if needed) 

 

​​☐​ Take a snapshot or screenshot of the desktop for those that have things pinned to taskbar etc., share drives and printers.  

 

​​☐​ Check for any specialty software that the user may have installed 

 

​​☐​ Once everything is transferred over rename the computer by placing -old at the end of the current name in case you need to get back on it while it is in quarantine. This will keep it from breaking Trust 

 

​​☐​ Make sure to Check In the old computer or laptop in wasp and move it to room D310 or if AIO 4th floor telecom closet. Put a sticky note on it with the Users Name, Quarantine, then put the date and put it on the Quarantine shelf in D310 or if AIO 4th floor telecom closet 

  • Steps to complete on new computer 

​​☐​ Have user sign into laptop while on campus and connected to ethernet to create their user profile 

 

​​☐​ Pull off of cecilcc.edu domain and put on MR.DESK and restart. Rename to X000-0 or add the -L (EXAMPLE D300-01 for desktop or D300-01-L for laptop If they are in a suite it could look like D300E-01 etc). Restart Again. Then put back on the cecilcc.edu domain. You will need to use a Domain Admin Account for this. One more Restart 

*Update for the renaming in Intune:

Renaming in Intune is alot easier then it was with PXE rename.  All you need to do is go to settings. Once there at the top of the window the current name will be there and underneath of that will be a rename button.  Click that and then Rename. The new naming scheme is X000-0x-EL (example D300-01-EL).  

*Adding Jenzabar in Intune:

 Click the Windows button and then start typing the word "Remote" . You are looking for RemoteApps and Desktop Connections. On the next screen click on "View Details" in the url field enter https://jenzabar.cecil.edu/RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx. It will then automatically download Jenzabars apps.

*Setting up primary user in Intune:

Once you have renamed the laptop and synced it, let Dan or Mitch know the name of the laptop and the users name and they can set it for you.

 

​​☐​ Transfer user profile back from Triage grab bookmarks export as well and transfer it too so you can import it. 

  • Finishing touches 

☐ Map share drives. They are in \\NEFS. You will have to check with the user for which drives are needed as different people have access to different share drives. 

 

☐ Map copiers and printers as needed 

 

☐ If user has a personal printer (not many left) download the correct drivers and install 

 

☐ Check with user to see if they have shared Calendars / Contacts just in case they need to reshare and setup permissions again 

 

☐ If a user has a battery backup make sure to only plug the computer into it. Everything else gets plugged into a surge protector and plugged into its own outlet 

 

☐ Check to see if user needs other icons pinned 

 

☐ Add Azure VPN if needed and deploy the setup file 

 

☐ If the user wants to use their laptop as a third monitor, room permitting help them extend the displays and setup accordingly. If they want to just use the two monitors and close the laptop, go to lid settings and select when lid is closed to do nothing 

 

☐ Make sure to grab the asset tag off the new computer and dock in case you forgot that during setup. Check out the laptop to the new owner and move the laptop and dock into the correct room as well. 

 

☐ If setting up a new office or upgrading an office, make sure to wire manage and tie cables using Velcro straps and wire management loom.  

 

☐ Make sure to take ALL of your trash with you when you are finished.
