Installing QGIS:
- Visit the QGIS Download page: https://qgis.org/download/
- Click the “skip it and go to download” button to get to the downloads page.
- In Offline (Standalone) installers, find the latest LTR version and download it.
- The installer is 1.3GB and may take some time.
- Once the installer is downloaded, copy the installer to a flash drive so you won’t have to repeat the download for multiple installations.
- Run the installer, install QGIS in Program Files
- QGIS will also leave a folder with the installer and a QGIS shortcut on the user’s desktop.
- This folder needs to be moved to QGIS 3.40.11 in Program Files.
- Search for QGIS in Windows and open file location
- Create a shortcut to QGIS and copy it to:
- This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > Public > Public Desktop
- Public Desktop is a hidden folder. To view it go to View > Show > Hidden Items
Installing ImageJ:
- Visit the ImageJ Download page: https://imagej.net/ij/download.html
- Download ImageJ bundled with 64-bit Java 8.
- It will come in a .zip file called “ij154-win-java8”
- Place ij154-win-java8.zip on a flash drive for repeated installations.
- Extract All in downloads folder
- Open the extracted ij154-win-java8 folder
- Open ImageJ folder
- Run ImageJ
- This will create a file called ImageJ.cfg inside the ImageJ folder.
- Without this file, ImageJ will throw an error when it runs.
- Move the ImageJ folder into: This PC à Windows (C:) >Program Files
- Create a Shortcut inside the ImageJ folder.
- Cut and Paste the ImageJ – Shortcut in:
- This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > Public > Public Desktop
- Public Desktop is a hidden folder. To view it go to View > Show > Hidden Items
- All users on this machine should be able to open ImageJ from that shortcut.
Installing ImageJ Plugins and Macros:
- Copy the ImageJ Plugin Instructions folder onto the public desktop:
- This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > Public > Public Desktop
- Public Desktop is a hidden folder. To view it go to View > Show > Hidden Items.
- This folder should contain Fixed_Angle_MacroTool.ijm and Versatile_Want_Tool.jar
- It should also include the “ImageJ Macro + Plugin Instructions”, which gives students instructions on how to install the Fixed Angle Macro Tool, which they will need to do each time they open ImageJ.
- The ImageJ Macro + Plugin Instructions includes instructions on how to install the Versatile Wand Tool. Unlike the Fixed Angle Macro Tool, the Versatile Wand Tool should be installed by IT and will remain after being installed.
