Step-by-Step Procedures:
If you are experiencing issues with the print server printer solutions, then it is recommended to try troubleshooting or isolating the problem by using TCP/IP port printing. Follow these steps to add a printer via TCP/IP port.
Adding the Printer via a TCP/IP Port
- Click the [Start] button
- Select [Printers and Faxes] (if not available, go into the Control Panel)
- Select [Add a printer] from the Printers and Faxes pop-up window under Printer Tasks
- When the “Welcome… Add Printer Wizard” pops-up, click [Next]
- Select the option to add [Local printer attached to this computer]
- Click [Next]
- On the Select a Printer Port screen, click [Create a new port:] and for the [Type of port:] select [Standard TCP/IP Port]
- Click [Next]
- On the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, simply click [Next]
- For the [Printer Name or IP Address:], enter the printer’s DNS name (e.g., as358hp) or IP address (e.g., 10.0.0.38)
- The [Port Name] should automatically be filled in for you; you can use the default or name it something more descriptive or meaningful.
- The next window shows the new port configuration summary, simply click [Finish] if all of the information appears correct.
- The Wizard will now continue prompting you to select a printer manufacturer model and driver.
- Once the correct driver has been select, click [Next]
- The next step allows you to provide a descriptive name of the printer; provide the name and then click [Next]
- When prompted to print a test page, select [Yes] and click [Next].
- Verify that the new TCP/IP print test was successful and that there are problems with the printer driver (e.g., special characters on the printed page.
