Certain dongles, called unifying dongles, are able to be programed to different devices. This way, devices and their dongles are no longer rendered useless when one of them is lost. You can simply pair the remaining part to a different counter part. Logitech Unifying Software is the software used to program these dongles. Any device with the logo shown below is capable of being programmed in this way.

To use it, plug the dongle you wish to reprogram into your computer, and have the device you wish to connect nearby. Open up the Unifying software and hit next. The program will walk you through the steps to connect the dongle and the device. You can connect several devices to one dongle, like a mouse and a keyboard.
