Safe print overview
Safe print mode is used when printing confidential documents. When a copier is in this mode, it will not print when you hit “Print” on your computer. Instead, you will need to go out to the copier and enter a predesignated pin. Then the document will print. This ensures that nobody passing by can glimpse the printed papers while you are walking to the printer.
Putting a copier in Safe Print mode and Sending the Job
To put a copier in safe print mode, go to the print page in the word editor you are using. The pictures below are from Word. To go to the print page in Word, hit “File” in the top left corner.

Once there, go to the print tab on the left-hand side. Make sure the copier you want to print to is selected under “Copier”. Then click on “Printer Properties” just below the selected copier.

This will bring up a property page for the copier. You will see tabs along the top of the window, click on “Job Handling”. Then, click on the field below “Document Filing” to open a drop-down menu.

In the drop-down menu, select “Hold Only”.

Once “Hold Only” is selected, you will see the settings page change slightly. There will now be options for “Stored to:” and “PIN Code”. You can leave the “Stored to:” on the default settings. It should be “Main Folder”. For the “PIN Code” you will want to make sure to click the check mark so that it is selected. Then enter the pin you want to use. These will be the numbers you need to enter into the copier to print the document. Once you have configured safe print, you can hit “OK”. You will be brought back to the Word document, and you can now hit “Print”.

Printing the Document
Your job will be sent to the copier. To print it, go out to the copier and touch the display to wake it up. On the home page, there should be a “File Retrieve” button. Click on it and then click on Main folder.

Select your job from the files in the folder.

You will then be asked to enter the pin for that file. Once you enter the pin, the print button will become available, and you can press it to print the file.
Using safe print with a mac
To configure safe print on an apple computer, you will want to open your word editor and then go to “File” in the top left corner of the computer screen. From there, click on “Print…”.

This will open the print settings. Scroll down to “Printer Options”, and then click “Job Handling”.

You will then see the screen shown below. Click on the drop-down menu under “Document Filing”. Then enter the pin you wish to use. You can now hit ok, which will bring you back to the previous window. There you will see a print button in the bottom right corner. You can hit this to send the job. You will then need to go to the copier to collect it.
