Overview
What is spam?
Spam is unsolicited junk email sent indiscriminately in bulk, often for commercial purposes. Much of it is sent by botnets, networks of virus-infected computers, complicating the process of tracking down the spammers. According to various estimates, about 80% of all email in the world may be spam.
What is phishing?
Phishing is the practice of defrauding users into giving up their usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal information. Phishing emails will often try to get you to click on links that take you to fake websites. They often pretend to be from organizations such as a bank, PayPal, Amazon, or even Cecil College.
Never respond to email asking you to provide personal information. Cecil College will never ask you for personal information by email.

Emails are a great form of communication, they are also great form of tricking people into releasing sensitive information. As an educational institute Cecil College is nearly constantly being targeted by people wanting to steal money or information. Outlook has a built in button with which users can report suspicious emails. This button sends the email to the Security Specialist so that they can evaluate the email and it's potential threat.
If you believe you received a suspicious email, please use the phishing button. In the Outlook app, the button is in the top right corner when you have an email selected.

If you are not using the newest version of Outlook, you may receive an error when trying to submit a potential phishing email. This can be fixed by switching the slider to "New Outlook" or navigating to the web version as detailed below.
Click the Off button shown below and it switches to On.
When prompted, click the Switch button.
In the web version of Outlook, the button is under reports in the ribbon. Once again, an email must be selected to see this option.

Additionally, emails are monitored by GoSecure, which will withhold certain emails such as junk or scams. Sometimes it retains something it shouldn't and you may want that email back. You will have to go to the GoSecure website and release it.
